Figures

sculpture-conference

Figures is an attempt at self-portraiture on stage, a sculpture-conference on the subject of the face of Germana Civera.

Her face is in the horizontal alignment of six heterogeneous configurations: four films, a table, a voice.  The six facets featured contradict each other, speaking of the becoming of a face that magnifies the story being told.

The day on which we see a photograph of our own face is a bad day said Paulhan.

Figures plays out the implosion of the image that goes with a face - a sure disaster, because the idea of photogeny is no more than a dismissive term. A puzzle to be solved:  Why do people show each other such ugly pictures of their loved ones? Spouses captured with wide angle lenses, children with red eyes, a new born made greenish by the fluorescent lights in the maternity ward... Are we experiencing an increasing iconoclasm under the guise of a widespread love of images?

Germana Civera and Laurent Goldring have often worked together over the last 10 years and set up an interesting dialogue in terms of research, sometimes for events such as Protocoles at the Brittany National Theatre, 100 Rencontres with the choreographer Benoît Lachambre and Hors séries with the Montpellier National Choreographic Centre.
