Oscar Abril Ascaso

Oscar Abril Ascaso, cultural producer and artist, counts with a professional trajectory of almost twenty years always around the performatical practices: performance, music, sound art, new media, theater and thought. Since 1990, he has commissioned dozens of exhibitions, directed several festivals and symposiums, as well as he has developed a work as a creator. At the last years, the fruit of his researches has pivoted in the environment to the analysis of the application of the Information and the Communication Technologies in the contemporary creation, the emergency of the free culture and the development of the territory of the advanced performatic arts.

As a cultural producer, he has been co-director of the Festival of Sonor Art Zeppelin, founding member of the performance divulging platform Club7, responsible for the archive online De LTM Machina about the art of action in the nineties, commissioner of the cycle Audio in the Center of Art Santa Mònica and co-responsible for the symposium CopyFight about the emergency of the free culture at the Center of Culture Contemporary of Barcelona (CCCB). Since 1997, he is a head curator and responsible for exhibitions of the Sónar, Festival of Advanced Musics and Art Multimedia and, since 2010, he is curator and responsible for new layouts for the Fàbrica de Creació d'Arts en Viu L'Estruch de Sabadell. The last curator project of Oscar April Ascaso, the exhibition Techformance: Del Happening Al Flashmob En El Territorio De La Comunicació Global for ARCO09 has been recently rewarded with the first prize at the Festival Transmediale de Berlin through one of its proposals.

As an artist, Oscar Abril Ascaso has developed a trajectory as performer since 1995. LTM (Low-Tech Music) was a project of re-update of the action music, which concluded with the publication of the Manual LTM in 2001. MRP (Metareference Projects) opened a line of experiments directed to the musicology and to the sound fact. Parallelly, his work as a musician and composer as a member of the group Oscar Abril Ascaso + Sedcontra, brought him to the direction, for seven years, of a program in the independent broadcasting station Radio Pica, to the direction of his first documentary Les Debuts, about his musical project, and to carry out the exposing project Center of Art Produces Pop Music, the first project of promotion of the free music by a public entity in Catalonia.
